Will of Thomas Clarke of Little Crakehall, 2 August 1626
In the name of God Amen, the second day of August in the second yeare of the reign of our sovereign Lord Charles by the grace of God King of Engiand etc 1626. I Thomas Clarke of Little- Crakehall in the County of York, laborer, sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance ,thanks be to God, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
First I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God trusting and believing steadfastly to be saved by the merits death and passion of Jesus Christ my saviour, and my body to be buried at Bedale church when it shall please God to call me.
First I give all my houses and lands to my wife during her natural life. Item I give unto my son Richard Clarke two closes, the one close called Fitts, another close called Walke Milne Close, and if my son Richard Clarke thinks that these two closes be not worth twenty pounds my mind is that my daughter Doritie Clarke shall make it worth twenty pounds. item my mind and will is that I give my daughter Dorithe my dwelling house, the Yowe Garth, the other Garth going to the street with the east end, and one land in the Little Field, one land in the Moor Field and one land in the East FieId.
Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth, Richard CIarkes house and the cow house, the Kiln Garth, one land in the Little Field on the southern side, one land in the Moor Field on the sonn side, one land in the East field on the east side.
Item my will is that my daughter Dorithy shall keep this godslie criter Gem Clark with house room, meat, drink and close as long as she lives.
Further I condition that my son Richard Clarke shall have all the houses and lands if he like to pay unto his sisters Dorithe and Elizabeth either of ..................................... pay unto Dorithe Clarke his sister next year after he enters £20 and to Elizabeth his sister two years after he enters £20. And that if he enter of all his father lands he shall keep the aforesaid Gem Clarke, daughter of Thomas Clarke with meat, drink and close as long as she lives.
And with all my other goods I give to my wife moveable and unmoveable of this my last will and testament whom I make my sole executor . And I appoint Thomas Harrison, Robert Mitchell and Henry Whitton to be supervisors of this my last will and testament whom I desire to see that all things be done according to the intent and meaning thereof.
A true and perfect Inventirie of all the goods and chatles of Thomas Clarke of Litle Crakehall wthin the p'ishe of Bedall lately deceased, praysed this second day of Februarie, Anno Dom. 1630 by three honest men Richard Mitchell, Thomas Harrison & Henry Whitton.
