Lynchets in the Gill Field, Great Crakehall

View looking NNW. The low winter sun emphasises these strip lynchets above the beck in the NW corner of Great Crakehall. The ruined shepherd's cottage (OS grid reference 231902) can be seen on the right in the first picture, with the tree-lined beck flowing from left to right. The stone-reinforced banks are about 22 yards (1 chain) apart, and the terrace steps each rise about 3 feet. When examined in 1973, five distinct banks were visible.
